Mount Avoca, founded in 1970 by John and Arda Barry, is now run by Matthew Barry and his sons, who continue the family legacy. Located in the Pyrenees, one of Australia’s oldest wine regions, Mount Avoca is the only organic-certified vineyard and winery in the area, pioneering sustainable viticulture practices. Initially a dream of a Melbourne stockbroker seeking a tree change, the 400-acre property was purchased, and the first vines were planted.

Matthew Barry, a second-generation owner, has maintained the environmental ethos, achieving organic certification in both the vineyard and winery. With a focus on quality, Mount Avoca’s wines stand out due to their natural, chemical-free approach. The Pyrenees Wine Region, often underrated, produces intensely flavoured wines with individuality and character, and Mount Avoca is at the heart of it, offering both exceptional wines and serene eco-luxury lodges.
