Charlie Mann transitioned from a career in music to winemaking after meeting Owen Latta in 2019. Inspired by Latta’s wines, Mann left his job and began working at Eastern Peake, where he still resides. Mann’s background in music—his primary passion and career—was overshadowed by the demands of commuting between Ballarat and Melbourne. His encounter with Latta changed his direction, leading to his first vintage at Coghill’s Creek. Mann’s winemaking philosophy emphasizes organic fruit, wild fermentations, and a minimalist approach, reflecting his appreciation for community and craftsmanship in Coghills Creek.

The Charles Oliver label emerged from Mann’s second vintage, with the 2023 release marking its fourth year. The label focuses on organic vineyards, lower alcohols, and minimal intervention, with wines that are unfiltered, unfined, and low preservative. The 2022 vintage included Grenache cuvées and a Syrah-Grenache blend from the Pyrenees.
