Derwent Valley, TAS

Derwent Valley is a wine region in Tasmania, located in the countryside just north of Hobart. Like much of Tasmania, the key grape varieties here are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling, all of which make premium wines – both still and sparkling – in the region's cool climate. The region follows the path of the Derwent river as it flows southwest into the d’Entrecasteaux Channel. A small number of larger producers dominate production here.

The valley is fairly sheltered by the mountains and has a cool sea breeze travelling through and rich, alluvial soil, leading to its high quality wines. This region is attracting attention for its high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Even rivalling those of New Zealand!
